Step 2 Tell us about your item

These details let us confirm the right process before you arrive. Everything is checked again with you at drop-off.

Please choose the type of item you are booking in.

Please tell us the main problem or treatment required.

A preference, not a confirmed appointment — we confirm the time with you before you visit.

Please choose a preferred drop-off date.

Helpful but not required — we go through the item with you at check-in and record its condition together.

After you book, bring your item to The Gear Spa with your order number. We check it in with you, record its condition, and treatment begins once it has been assessed and accepted.

We work with reasonable care and skill, but cleaning cannot guarantee that every stain or odour will be removed, and existing wear can become more visible. We record your item's condition with you at check-in and explain any specific risks before we begin.

What’s included

A two-stage treatment for technical fabrics and performance gear:

  • A controlled, fabric-specific clean that lifts the dirt, sweat and residue that impair breathability and insulation.
  • Professional-grade durable water repellent (DWR) reproofing that restores water repellency without compromising membrane integrity.
  • Your choice of the Standard treatment (£19.99) or the Standard treatment with an added Sterilisation Treatment (£29.99), a professional sanitising process that targets and reduces odour-causing bacteria, fungi and mould.
  • Assessment of your item on its individual condition before any work begins.

Suitable for

  • Waterproof and hardshell jackets
  • Ski and snow outerwear
  • Waterproof trousers and salopettes
  • Tents and technical shelters
  • Breathable membrane garments and technical equipment

Not suitable for

  • Items with irreparable damage such as delaminated membranes or failed seam taping, which reproofing cannot restore
  • Everyday clothing that carries no water-repellent finish to reactivate
  • Leather or heavily oiled garments
  • Items too soiled or contaminated for us to accept safely, which we flag at assessment

The specialist process

Each item is first cleaned using a controlled process matched to its fabric and construction, removing the dirt, sweat and residue that dull breathability and insulation. We then restore water repellency with a professional-grade durable water repellent (DWR) treatment that reactivates the fabric without compromising membrane integrity.

Your gear is thoroughly dried and handed back clean, protected and performance-ready. Because results depend on the fabric and its condition, we assess every item individually and will advise you before work begins if an outcome is uncertain.

  1. Choose your service — pick the treatment that matches your item.
  2. Give us the details — item type, the main problem, and anything we should know.
  3. Book and pay — payment reserves your cleaning service.
  4. Bring it in — bring the item to The Gear Spa with your order number. Please do not post or courier it.
  5. Check-in and acceptance — we record its condition with you and explain any specific risks. Treatment starts once the item is accepted.
  6. Collect — we contact you when it is ready, and you collect it in person.

What does reproofing actually do? p>Over time, dirt and residue mask the water-repellent finish on technical outerwear, so water soaks in rather than beading off. Our professional-grade DWR treatment reactivates that finish after cleaning, helping the fabric shed water again without affecting the underlying membrane./p>

Should I add the Sterilisation Treatment? p>The optional upgrade (+£10) adds a professional sanitising process that targets and reduces odour-causing bacteria, fungi and mould held deep within fibres and padding. It is worth considering for gear that carries persistent smoke, sweat or damp odours alongside the clean and reproof./p>

Can any waterproof item be reproofed? p>Most technical outerwear, ski wear, waterproof trousers, tents and membrane garments respond well. Reproofing cannot rescue items where the membrane has delaminated or seam taping has failed, as the construction itself is compromised. We assess suitability with you at check-in, before any treatment begins./p>
