We work with reasonable care and skill, but cleaning cannot guarantee that every stain or odour will be removed, and existing wear can become more visible. We record your item's condition with you at check-in and explain any specific risks before we begin.

What’s included

A controlled, down-safe wash matched to feather-and-down construction, followed by professional drying and re-lofting to help restore volume and warmth where the fill is undamaged.

The standard service is £29.99. Where odours have settled deep into the fill, you can add our Sterilisation Treatment for £10 (£39.99 total) — a dry sanitising process that targets and reduces odour-causing bacteria, fungi and mould.

After you book, bring the jacket to The Gear Spa with your order number. We check it in with you, record its condition and confirm suitability before treatment begins.

  • Waterproof shell jackets that need water repellency restored, better suited to Wash & Reproof
  • Jackets with failed baffles or open seams that would leak fill during cleaning
  • Items carrying contamination we are unable to safely accept

The specialist process

Down needs different handling from synthetic fill. We clean each jacket with a gentle, down-safe process that lifts dirt, sweat and body oils without stripping the natural loft, then dry it slowly and thoroughly to keep the clusters separated and prevent clumping or fill migration.

As the down dries it is professionally re-lofted to rebuild volume and thermal efficiency, while the lightweight shell and baffles are handled carefully to protect fabric integrity. The jacket comes back cleaner, fuller and closer to 'like new' where its condition allows.

  6. Collect — we contact you when it is ready, and you collect it in person.

Where: Unit 5 Tekori Court, Louth, LN11 0WA. Please bring your item in person. We are not set up to receive items by post or courier and cannot guarantee anyone will be available to accept a delivery, so please do not send items to us. If an item does reach us that way we will contact you and agree what happens next.

Collection: We contact you when your item is ready. Items are collected in person by you or by someone you have authorised in writing.

We carry out every service with reasonable care and skill, and we inspect each item before we accept it.

  • Cleaning cannot guarantee that every stain or odour will be removed.
  • Existing damage can become more visible after cleaning.
  • Age, wear, weakened fibres, failed seam tape, deteriorated coatings, loose trims, degraded adhesives, peeling prints and previous repairs can all affect the result.
  • Please disclose known defects and previous repairs, and empty all pockets before you arrive.
  • We may decline an item we consider unsuitable or unsafe to process, and we will explain why.
  • If we find that different or additional work is needed, we will ask you before doing it.

Can you clean down without ruining the fill? p>Yes. Down responds well to the right process. We use a down-safe clean paired with a controlled drying and re-lofting cycle that keeps the clusters separated, so the fill regains loft rather than clumping together./p>

Will my jacket be as warm as before? p>Where the down and baffles are undamaged, re-lofting restores much of the original volume and warmth. If the fill has broken down or migrated in places, we will tell you at assessment what result is realistically achievable./p>

My jacket has synthetic fill — is this the right service? p>This service is tuned for down and feather fill. For synthetic-insulated jackets, our Synthetic Insulated Jacket Wash is the better match. If you are unsure, email us a photo before you book and we will advise./p>
